HNC Social Services – SCQF LEVEL 7
Aim of Course:
The HNC in Social Services is suitable for people who work or wish to work in settings where care and support is being provided for individuals or groups. The main aim is to provide an integrated course of practice and theory to equip candidates to work effectively in a range of social care settings. Learners will gain an understanding of the values and principles of social care and will learn how to integrate those values with the necessary skills and knowledge.
The HNC comprises a number of Mandatory and Optional Units that include topics such as: Care in Contemporary Society, Leadership, Health, Wellbeing and Safeguarding, Safety and Security in the Work Setting, Developing your Practice through Reflection and Learning. The HNC includes core units from SVQ Social Services and Healthcare at SCQF Level 7. Students will apply the academic knowledge to a practice setting with a placement within an appropriate social care setting.
Previous experience in the sector is desirable but not essential. You should be able to provide evidence of achievement at Higher Level (SCQF Level 6). If this is unavailable then you may be asked to complete a pre-registration activity.
Employment in Social Work and Social Care. The HNC Social Services is recognised by the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) as a suitable qualification for registration in care environments.

To be completed over 1 year if studying on a full time basis and over 2 years if studying on a part time basis.
